Husband-and-wife entrepreneurs bring a Puerto Rican superfood to American tables with Amazon
Jayuya, PR
Amasar
While living abroad, Puerto Rico native Marisol Villalobos found herself craving breadfruit, a staple of her diet back home. Her search led to a discovery: when dehydrated, the fast-ripening fruit became a long-lasting, gluten-free flour alternative—an idea that sparked her company, Amasar.
After moving back to Puerto Rico to start her company, Villalobos decided to use Amasar to support the local community, partnering with local farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture across the island. Launching her Amazon storefront has allowed her to expand the reach of her products and mission across the country. With sales tripling within her first years selling with Amazon, she has been able to invest back in her community, and enact lasting change.
