David Perez and MJ Eng had a lot in common. Fatherhood, yes, but also a shared background building some of the country’s leading consumer brands.

Eng and Perez wanted to teach their children how a business is built—from market research and product design to launch.

“We wanted to inspire them to be more than just consumers,” recalled Eng, who co-founded Think Tank Scholar with Perez.

What started as a family project soon grew into a line of thoughtfully designed flashcards and learning games that help children master reading and math fundamentals. Each product is developed in the U.S. in collaboration with licensed educators to ensure it aligns with classroom standards. From sight-word and phonics decks to multiplication and division sets, every item is rigorously play-tested for engagement, retention, and fun.

Since launching in the Amazon store, Think Tank Scholar has topped Amazon’s Educational Flashcards bestseller list and earned recognition from parents and educators alike—including the 2025 Creative Child Kids Product and Game of the Year, National Parenting Center Seal of Approval, and Family Choice Award.

Perez and Eng say much of their growth has been fueled by Amazon events like Prime Day.

“Back-to-school season and Prime Day are huge moments for us,” said Eng. “We ramp up our inventory and advertising to meet demand. It gives our business a big boost every year.”

To manage that momentum, the team relies on Amazon’s Strategic Account Services, which keeps them informed about new tools and best practices, and Brand Tailored Promotions, which helps them build brand loyalty and acquire new customers by offering exclusive discounts.

Together, those programs have helped Thin Tank Scholar reach more families and strengthen year-round sales.

Beyond sales, the founders say their real mission is to spark curiosity.

“We want to inspire a lifetime love of creative thinking and learning through educational products that are both fun and thought-provoking,” said Eng. “With Think Tank Scholar, you’re not just buying a product—you’re joining a community that values lifelong learning.”
